From the ground...
... help us to help you!

Should you be unfortunate enough to need the services of an ambulance you must remember to DIAL 999, ASK FOR THE AMBULANCE and then give Ambulance Control very clear and exact information. Ambulance Control will usually call you back to tell you if the Air Ambulance is responding to your emergency.

If this is the case please remember that, from the air it can be difficult locating the exact whereabouts of a casualty This is particularly true in isolated, rural and coastal areas. Two main things attract the eye - colour and movement.

COLOUR

needs to be as bold as possible and a colour which also contrasts sharply with your surroundings. A Day-glow / florescent waistcoat for horse and bike riders, or orange survival bags for walkers, are very distinctive. White can also work well out in the countryside.

this means actions which leave the flight crew in no doubt that you want them to land where you are standing, rather than just a wave to say 'hello'. If it is dangerous for the aircraft to land, stand up, extend your arms above you head and make a cross above your head (and hold this position until the pilot has seen you). This indicates to the pilot to abort the landing. The aircraft will then circle the incident and find another suitable landing spot.
